The inaugural Drum Circle Facilitators of China Conference took place in China in October 2024, a milestone made possible by the groundwork laid by Remo Belli, Arthur Hull, and John Fitzgerald. Their efforts, along with connections made with Bing Wong, Tonny Wen, and many others, have demonstrated the powerful role rhythm plays in uniting people across the globe. Drumming as a practice to enrich the soul has existed for thousands of years. While community drumming circles may have begun in backyards or on beaches, combining the ancient tradition of drumming with the intentions behind why we drum—along with the art of drum circle facilitation—creates a transformative experience. Drum circle facilitation elevates the practice, fostering deeper connections and meaningful experiences for people from all walks of life: families, children, the elderly, and those facing challenges. It results in a safe, inclusive space for everyone to participate.
The facilitator community in China has grown vibrantly over the past 10 years. Much of this progress is thanks to Tonny Wen, with heartfelt gratitude extended to Arthur Hull, Founder of Village Music Circles, for his dedication to building and nurturing this community over many years.
John's workshop was attended by 40 participants, while over 100 people took part in the conference itself. The sessions led by Chinese facilitators were diverse, professional, and well-received. Arthur, Kumi Masunaga, Founder of Drum Jam in Hong Kong, and John were invited to lead sessions during the conference.
With the support of Tonny Wen and REMO Inc., Arthur Hull is fulfilling his lifelong mission to certify Drum Circle Facilitator Trainers. These trainers are selected for their unique qualifications, expertise, and deep understanding of mindfulness, purpose, and the true intention behind facilitating the full potential of individuals through rhythm. By expanding the network of qualified Facilitator Trainers around the world, this initiative will help foster greater connection, inclusion, and rhythmic bliss on a global scale.
