About HealthRHYTHMS

HealthRHYTHMS is an evidence-based protocol that harnesses the power of group drumming to improve health and wellness. Our training program focuses on four core strategies:

  1. Understanding the science behind the mind-body connection in music-making.
  2. Learning the HealthRHYTHMS protocol and using it as a rhythm prescription for participants.
  3. Developing your facilitation skills for group empowerment drumming sessions.
  4. Designing and marketing drumming-based wellness programs in your community.

Meet Your Trainers:

Frank Thompson

Frank has been a professional drum circle facilitator and educator for over 30 years. He is the founder of the Arizona Rhythm Connection (AZRC) and a Remo Certified Trainer. During a corporate career of 25 years, Frank has held regional and national marketing, training and management positions with several Fortune 100 Firms. Frank completed graduate and undergraduate studies in Management at the University of Redlands and is probably one of the few six-sigma certified hand drummers you will run into. His background has given him a special gift and insight for creating exciting team building and interactive experiences for his clients.

Frank's organization, AZ Rhythm Connection is based in Scottsdale, Arizona. He and his team provide rhythm-based events throughout the United States. The AZRC has done rhythm events for, Abbott Labs, Campbell's Soup, The Canadian Construction Association, Gambro Inc., Arizona Dept of Health Services, Prudential, Banner Health, University of Arizona, Arizona State and many others. Frank also teaches the most fun hand drumming classes for beginners in the greater Phoenix area. Frank has dedicated his life towards using recreational music to help individuals and organizations "Keep to Their Beat" while "Living to Play and Playing to Live"!

Frank has also taken his story of how he built his successful drum-based business, The AZ Rhythm Connection and shared his wisdom with the world. Frank's newly published book, One Drum and a Dream, is available now for order on Amazon.

Suzy Turner

Meet Suzy Turner Known for her uplifting and inclusive approach, Founder + Chief of Beats of Soulshine Rhythm Experience. Suzy Turner, has the ability to inspire participants of all ages and abilities to relax, engage, and connect through the universal language of rhythm. With a background in traditional West African djembe, Suzy also loves sharing her passion for drumming through a variety of rhythm workshops and classes. In addition to being trained in multiple evidence-based facilitation methods, Suzy finds great joy in combining music and movement and has developed a unique rhythm-based fitness program suitable for all ages and physical abilities. Endorsed by drum manufacturer REMO, Suzy is also a Certified NASM Personal Trainer and a member of the Professional Drum Circle Facilitators Guild.

Suzy's organization Soulshine Rhythm Experience Founded in Austin in 2016, the Soulshine Rhythm Experience's mission has always been about creating connections. Over the last decade, Soulshine has grown to provide interactive drumming activities for organizations and cities throughout Central Texas, including corporate team building, national conference events, therapeutic programs, senior wellness, community engagement, and education.

  • Do I need to bring anything? No, just bring yourself! Drums, lunch, and all training materials, including a PDF download, will be provided.
  • Where can I stay? The training will take place in Austin, TX, with nearby hotels for your convenience.
  • Is this program eligible for continuing education credits? Yes, this training provides 15 hours of education in Group Empowerment Drumming, which can be applied towards Continuing Education for music therapists through the Certification Board of Music Therapists (CBMT).
  • Do I need to be a musician or clinician to attend? Absolutely not! This training is open to anyone interested in using drumming for wellness.
  • Can I bring my own drum? Yes! We welcome personal hand drums and percussion.
  • What if I can’t afford the full ticket price? We are committed to making this training accessible to everyone. A tiered ticket system, including a "pay-what-you-can" option, is available for students, interns, or anyone experiencing financial hardship.
