MONDO™ DJEMBES
Remo Mondo™ key-tuned djembes are tensioned to perform right out of the box.
Some professional players will match the open/bass tone to the root note of an ensemble.
In most cases, it's player preference based off desired response and pitch.
General rule of thumb: The looser the head is, the lower the tone and response. The tighter the head is, the higher tone and response.
REPLACING MONDO™ DRUMHEAD
Remove the drum tuning rods in a crisscross method until all of them are loose.
Completely remove all tuning parts (drum rods, washer and claw hooks).
Remove the drumhead and wipe the drum bearing edge with a towel to remove any dust particles.

Place the new drumhead on the drum and locate the Remo Crown on the Mondo™ drumhead opposite the front badge on the drum shell.
Reassemble the drum rods, washers and claw hooks on the djembe.
Finger tighten all drum rods around the drum in a crisscross method.

TUNING MONDO™ DJEMBE
The new Mondo™ drumhead will have a 90 degree edge. As tension is applied, the drumhead will conform to the bearing-edge of the drum-shell, creating a beveled edge.
After all drum rods are finger tight, begin tuning by using a crisscross method.

Starting with drum rod #1, give a whole turn clockwise and continue till you complete tuning each point. You may need to repeat this a few times depending on how high you like the drum pitch to be. Once you start feeling a little resistance, give it a half turn following the same pattern.

Check the pitch by tapping the rim over each tuning point so you can hear the high frequencies. Try to match the pitch around the entire drum.
TIME TO REPLACE DRUMHEAD
The Mondo™ drumhead is very durable and will last a long time. It is a replaceable drumhead and will stretch throughout the life of the drum.
When the claw hook reaches the arrow point shown below, you may bottom out and exceed the length of the contour tuning bracket, prompting head replacement.

These codes indicate the inner diameter (ID) of the aluminum ring, which determines how the head fits inside the drum’s counter hoop. D1 = smallest fit, D4 = largest fit The crown size (playing surface) stays the same—only the ID changes to match various drum brands.
Why doesn't my Fiberskyn say Fiberskyn 3? The trademark is officially 'FIBERSKYN®'. During our periodic updates with our imprints and keeping in-line with our trademark registration, all current Remo production of Fiberskyn products have the logo without the number '3'
What's the difference between Fiberskyn, Nuskyn and Skyndeep? FIBERSKYN® provides a superb, authentic drum sound for maximum projection, lively overtones, and slap tones that are easy on your hands. It is the brightest sound of all three Remo film technologies. With superior construction, the low maintenance, weather resistant FIBERSKYN drumheads will enhance your drumming experience. In fact, they are the world’s most widely recorded synthetic world percussion drumheads and are used by most top-professional drummers in the world. It produces ultimate volume with overtones drummers love, and controlled by muting with their hands. LIVELY OVERTONES EASY TO PLAY BRIGHT MID-RANGE TONES NUSKYN® sounds natural, warm, and full-bodied with enhanced low and mid-range frequencies, without any lingering high pitched overtones. NUSKYN® resembles the performance of an animal skin expanding the sound response spectrum dramatically. This means heavy hitting drummers that are accustomed to playing the animal skin will get that same response needing to pull the tone and volume out of the drum. "You know who you are. Manos de Piedra." QUICK DECAY OVERTONES SOUNDS LOOKS & FEELS LIKE ANIMAL SKIN ENHANCED LOW AND MID-RANGE FREQUENCIES SKYNDEEP® is the graphic infusion of pigment into a polyester surface making it uniquely attractive while maintaining the integrity of a great sounding drumhead. SKYNDEEP is weather resistant, producing warm mid-range tones, increases sound, volume and projection similar to the FIBERSKYN without the added fiber layer. This is all around the friendliest drumhead film for hand drummers that want a traditional sound and lifesaving hand care. Playing Skyndeep, you’ll notice your hand velocity is less than playing Nuskyn. This film technology is also very durable during transportation and from the occasional scrapes and bumps.
