Heathor Kulber grew up with a love of music that started at age 3 with a suitcase record player, banging a toy drum to Cher, The Monkees & The Beatles. As she grew, so did the love - learning to play guitar and bass, & eventually moving on to drums after seeing Keith Moon & The Who on an early 80’s video show.
Devouring every influence from Ringo to Bonham to Martin Chambers, she joined an all-female college alternative rock band at age 16, barely able to sneak her way into the clubs she played. They played throughout the Wisconsin/Illinois area, garnering great press & a good following, playing at Milwaukee’s premier music festival Summerfest, the Great Lakes Naval Base in Chicago, and opening for Concrete Blonde, Soul Asylum, & Drivin’ & Cryin’.
The Sirens of Milwaukee eventually yearned to be more than a local act & moved to Los Angeles in 1989 to find fame & fortune, only to break up months later, due to homesickness & a shoulder & neck injury she suffered in a car accident the week before they left home, which made playing drums & work painful. She stepped back from performing music for almost a decade, always listening, still playing, albeit alone…
Until she moved to North Hollywood, CA in 2000 & discovered the Remo Recreational Center, she had dealt with the past injuries by becoming a yoga teacher & hadn’t drummed in years when she walked into their monthly Women’s Drum Circle & found a home. The leader of the women’s circle recognized her talent & began integrating her rainstick & guided meditations, encouraged her to do sound baths, & nudged her into the center of the circle. Heathor felt the joy & healing and wished to bring it to others, attending several Arthur Hull facilitator trainings and traveling to Hawaii for the yearly Rhythmacation.
Suddenly, she was drumming again, leading circles, teaching drums, integrating drums & sound into her yoga classes, and yoga & meditation into her drum events - finding a perfect symbiosis of healing & fun.
Since becoming a drum circle facilitator, she has done events for schools & pre-schools, churches & synagogues, corporations, and parties. She has helped open events like the LIT Poetry Jam & the Alzheimer’s Walk in Los Angeles. Heathor also works with the Alzheimer’s, Dementia, & Parkinsons community, bringing music, percussion & joy into adult day care centers across the Los Angeles area. Each week she hosts a popular Sound bath healing at YogaNoHo in North Hollywood, plus monthly Cacao + Sound ceremonies incorporating drums, percussion & singing.
