Dr. Charlie Daugherty currently serves as Instructor of Percussion and Percussion Area Coordinator at the University of Alabama. Prior to her full-time appointment, Charlie was fortunate to serve as a faculty member at four different institutions while obtaining her Doctor of Musical Arts degree. During the 2025–2026 academic year, she served as adjunct faculty at both the University of North Alabama and Mississippi State University, where she taught private lessons, percussion ensemble, marching band, and percussion methods. Previously, she served as an adjunct faculty member at Stillman College from 2023–2025 and at The University of Alabama in Huntsville in the spring of 2024.
Charlie’s performance career has taken her across the United States in a variety of settings, from orchestral and chamber music to marching percussion. She performs with regional orchestras in Alabama, including the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra, Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra, and Shoals Symphony Orchestra. In 2025, Charlie competed in the Great Plains International Marimba Competition, receiving second place in the duo category. She has appeared on other national stages, including the 2024 PASIC International Percussion Ensemble Competition Showcase with the University of Alabama under the direction of Andrew Lynge and the 2019 PASIC All-Star Collegiate Percussion Ensemble under the direction of James Campbell. She has also performed across the country with World Class DCI/WGI groups, including Phantom Regiment and Matrix.
Charlie holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from The University of Alabama in Percussion Performance, a Master of Music degree from Middle Tennessee State University in Percussion Performance, and a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Kent State University. Charlie has been a proud member of the Percussive Arts Society since 2017, where she served as chair of the University Student Committee from 2024–2026. Charlie proudly endorses Innovative Percussion, Sabian cymbals, and Remo drumheads.
