Born in Tokyo in 1955, Mr. Toshinori started playing the drum set from at 9 years of age and went on to become a professional drummer in 1975.
He has been active in the recording and concert tour scene and worked with many famous Japanese artists.

After exposure to the music of the African music in 1985 he became passionate about the Djembe drum.
Reading Mickey Hart’s book Drumming at the Edge of Magic in 1990 led him to a new passion for drum circle facilitation. He has studied with great American facilitators/trainers, Arthur Hull and Christine Stevens and John Fitzgerald as well as others.

He initiated the first drumming circle at the Fuji Rock Festival in 2007 as well as created a wide range of drumming activities working with general community, kindergarten children and in elderly facilities. He has also facilitated corporate drumming programs for TEPCO and Danone Foods Japan for communicate and stress reduction outcomes.

He has shared the power of drumming through playing djembe at the Miyaji music school, with 100 participants, many children with disabilities

Mr. Tolshinori spent 10 months doing monthly drumming circles as one of the anger management programs sponsored by Danone Foods in the Sendai disaster area of 2012 after the Great East Japan Earthquake.
