Process Engineer - Coatings


 Management of process engineering, product development, and process improvement projects related to chemicals and raw materials, as well as management of company environmental and chemical safety program.  Hourly laboratory technician will report to this position.

Duties and Responsibilities

 ·       Selects inventory and quality control of all chemical raw materials used in the production process; including plastic compounds, flammable solvents, resins, paints, epoxy and adhesives.

 ·       Provides direction in improving the operating efficiency of chemical process equipment; including scrubbers, ovens, spray equipment, and transfer molding operations. 

 ·       Responsible for the qualification of chemicals and raw materials used in new product development; including development and execution of performance and quality control tests for raw material approval; ensuring company-wide compliance with all local and federal environmental regulations; including EPA, DOT, Stormwater, and AQMD. 

 ·       Responsible for completion of all regulatory reports and maintaining of chemical inventory and MSDS system; management of hazardous waste program; including classification and collection of waste and proper manifesting and shipping of hazardous waste to outside facilities.

 Education and Job Experience


 Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university; or a level of education that together with experience and training enables the applicant to demonstrate the required knowledge and experience.


 3-5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment with basic chemistry fluid transfer, heat transfer and materials properties knowledge, including formulation knowledge of epoxy, polyurethane, and polyester resin systems. Managing research and development projects related to coatings, casting resins, molds, paints, inks, dyes, adhesives, etc.  Measuring mechanical properties of coatings and materials; including adhesion, elastic modulus, and coating durability.  Designing/specifying equipment for process development projects, including pumps, blowers, mixers, ventilation, spray systems, evaporators, etc.

Silicone mold making experience a plus.
