Lloyd McCausland Retires from REMO, Inc. After 40 Years of Exceptional Service

After 40 years with REMO, Inc., Lloyd McCausland has decided to retire from frequent 12-hour days and a heavy travel schedule. He will continue as a consultant for Remo, Inc. and enjoy the good life at home in Agoura Hills with his wife, Judy, an elementary school teacher and their summers on Cape Cod.

This native of Milford, Massachusetts began preparing for his sales career by taking drum lessons at age five. Subsequently, he earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music from the prestigious New England Conservatory and spent an unprecedented five seasons at Tanglewood, summer home of the Boston Symphony, under such notable conductors as Leonard Bernstein, Charles Munch, and Pierre Monteux. After graduation he had a successful career as a percussion performer and educator.

His career turned in 1964 while touring as head percussionist for the Ice Capades, when he first met Remo Belli and began his 40-year relationship with Remo, Inc. Starting as Educational Director, Lloyd soon moved into sales responsibilities. He leaves his seat at Remo, Inc. as vice-president but will still maintain an active role in various professional and industry groups.

Lloyd recently served as the Membership Chairperson of the Percussive Marketing Council, which he and Jerry Hershman started as the International Drum Month (IDM) Program. The IDM is still an integral part of PMC and Lloyd will continue to be an active member of PMC. He is also on the IAJE Advisory Board as well as IAJE Industry Exhibits Representative. His past contributions include the Percussive Arts Society Board of Directors, MIC/MENC Board of Directors, California Music Council Board of Directors and serving on the Los Angeles Chapter of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association. Lloyd launched the Los Angeles Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society and IDM.

This past December 5, 2003, Los Angeles City Mayor, James Hahn, and the LA City Council through the LA Weekly magazine, honored McCausland for his support of thousands of dollars worth of drums and equipment to the Los Angeles Unified School District Music and after school programs.

Lloyd “Butch” McCausland is a man of beguiling contradictions. This hard-working vice president somehow combines Scotch feistiness with warm friendliness, serious intensity with hearty joviality, California laid-back with a streak of hard-nosed New England conservatism. It has been a winning combination for Remo, Inc.
