Sitting behind the drum kit of one of the most explosive bands on the scene today, Mike Fuentes’ career has traversed everything from post-hardcore to hip hop. Perhaps best known as the drummer for Pierce the Veil, Mike was born on December 14, 1984. The younger brother of guitarist and singer Vic Fuentes and their father a jazz and blues guitarist, he was given his first drum set at a young age and taught himself everything he knows today. With music shared in the family, it was only natural that the two brothers start a band together. In his own words, “My Dad has always been my biggest influence. He taught me to play my music with heart and soul, to really feel every note.”
That first Fuentes affair, Before Today, would find its way to signing with Equal Vision Records. After one record, the band broke up, and up from the ashes rose Pierce the Veil, who have gone to have three full lengths, including Collide with the Sky on Fearless Records in 2012. Known for their catchy take of post-hardcore straight from the heart, they’ve carved out a strong place in the hearts of listeners with their strong live show. “We make every show special. There's always something new, whether it is emotion, performance or party tricks,” Mike says. “It’s very critical that we always pursue a flawless performance.” Living by his five piece Truth drum kit and Remo heads, he and Pierce The Veil have toured with the likes of A Day To Remember, All Time Low, Bring Me The Horizon, and Sleeping With Sirens. On their first headlining dates in four years, they sold out all of their tour, packing large rock clubs, and later headlined their stage at Soundwave Festival.
Mike himself is known for a unique take of drumming. While most post-hardcore drummers flail non-stop double pedal runs and memorization of fills, Mike changes his show every night and relies on a single pedal. This combination makes him stand out as a drummer on the scene. Having won Drummer Of The Year from the AlternativePress Reader’s Poll in 2012, Mike has cemented his place as a top drummer that is here to stay.
