Syed has been teaching, conducting and performing in the percussion field for 30 years. Being a versatile percussionist himself, he has also been actively involved in all aspects of music making.
Syed is in every aspect a well-rounded educator. He has a Specialist Diploma in Counseling & Business Psychology, formal training in Experiential Learning Processes and Community Drum Circle Facilitators’ Training by Arthur Hull, HealthRHYTHM Programme by Christine Stevens & Dr Barry Bittman, and Developmental Community Music by Kalani. His artistic affluence and years as music educator allow him to be instrumental in the setting up the Performing Arts Department and held the position of Head of the Performing Arts Department in the St. Anthony’s Canossian Secondary School for 8 years, giving numerous students exposure to high standards of art forms that inspired them to pursue further.
Passionate in the creation and conceptualizing of music programmes for schools, Syed has developed various workshops for both teachers and students as enrichment programme through his belief that “Children will do better, when they are allowed to do well’.
In addition to his work as an educator & facilitator, he is a pioneer in the community & recreational drumming movement promoting Community Drum Circles in Singapore. And in recognition of his dedication to his craft, Syed is a proud recipient of the Spirit of Enterprise (Singapore) Award as well as the Citation Of Excellence in recognition of outstanding contribution to Percussion Education by the Percussive Arts Society (USA) in 1999.
