Toshinori Takimoto, official advisor for the Drum Circle Facilitators Association was born in Tokyo Japan and has played the drum-set since he was ten. At age fourteen he began to play in various bands, and at the age twenty-one became a full-time professional drummer.

He has recorded and performed with many famous Japanese artists such as Shogo Hamada, Tsuyoshi Nagabuchi, Yutaka Ozaki, Seiko Matsuda and many others as well.

At the age twenty-nine, attracted by African beats, the roots of rhythm, he started to play Djembe. He was deeply inspired and moved by Mickey Hart’s book, “Drumming at the Edge of Magic: A Journey into the Spirit of Percussion” and came to believe drumming held unlimited power and possibilities.

Since 2003, he has been facilitating drum circles for children, seniors, and people with disabilities mainly in the Tokyo area. He also offers drum circles for large companies such as Tokyo Electric Power Company, Danone Japan and others. Besides facilitating, he teaches drum-set and Djembe at Miyaji-gakki (Tokyo) to more than 100 students who are from six to seventy-five years old. “Kids’ Rhythm Ensemble” is one of his classes, where he offers joyful rhythm experiences for kids, including those who has handicap. He believes through teaching drumming, he can offer opportunities for sharing the treasure of rhythm, which creates magical moments full of inspiration, both physically and emotionally.
