Snare baskets; do you crank it up or not?

I do not, there is probably 1/2" play around the snare rim.

Reason: I want maximum resonance from the shell.

What is your preference and why?

We played our gig yesterday afternoon and after packing up we sat down to eat. Then, in rolling crate after crate of a traveling pro band (The Crush) for the evening gig. The drummer put a snare stand on a crate and mounted his DW snare. He cranked it so tight I thought he was going to bend the rim.
