well the only thing that really is the same between the wo worlds of marching and set druming, are that the you play drums all set players have a talent and so do marchers. but if you ask some people marchers have to have more to do in the aspects of you have to have all your dots( drill moves) music, and visual work, and last but not leasr you have any where from 10 _ 400 people haveing to play as one. so yeah the art of marching to me is harder than set playing. and i play both. so

Just clicked on the above post as is my habit and I will say this as a set drummer with no marching background at all.....

Any set drummer with an ounce of knowledge of the art of drumming would acknowledge the skill, dedication and expertise of a good marching drummer and marching unit. If all set drummers had the marching basics down they would be better at what they do. I know I would.

Oh man... I don't understand why SO many corps and bands have so slavishly chosen (much less stayed with) primarily black/dark uniforms. Aside from the fact that dark colored uniforms visually make the individuals, and thus the group look smaller, they're also inherently hotter when you least want them to be... as you who've suffered through wearing them very intimately know!

Here's some pics from the competition this past Saturday. Percussion and Band got 1st in our class, grand champion of our class, and grand champion overall. So it was a good weekend for us. I'm the shorter tenor who's stick bag is falling off. I hate that thing, I need to fix the velcro. These pics are all from the last 3 sets of the show, so I don't really go to far, just from the visual to the sideline.

Two from shows since January 1. Neither of these are my kits. I have been playing more drumset than everything else combined for the last few years. Hope everyone has been great.

This is me manu yeas ago when I played for a sea scout band (centre, blue jersey):

And this is our "drum line" last St Georges day just prior to marching off (I'm far right with the red SRS)
Our youngest drummer is 5 years old.
And the guy on the left is being told off by the bass Big Smile :

Some pics from our last competition. I'm the shorter tenor with the jacked-up crossbelt. I don't know what's wrong with that thing, but it just won't stay where it's supposed to.

In an attempt to revive this thread, here's some pics from my experience at the US Army All American Marching Band in San Antonio a couple weeks ago. The drumline had a great staff, headed by Jeff Prosperie. It was an awesome week, and I learned a lot. I'm the tenor closest to the snares.
