I facilitated my first HealthRhythms circle on Thursday, 7/21, with a group of 10 people. Onee of my regular drum students iss a cancer survivor who has experienced HealthRhythms before and requested I have a circle, so we expanded the group to about 50% survivors/family/oncological healthcare and 50% other individuals interested in HealthRhythms. The circle went very well; I was grateful to have an easy group to work with first as I'm working on taking this into the residential counseling centers I teach drumming at and the at-risk young men and women will be a much toucher crowd. (My first circle there may be 8/2, so any tips on working with the troubled 13-18 year-old crowd woulod be appreciated! I do well with them in purely didactic mode, as the drum teacher, but this is very different . . .)
My personal lesson from this first group is that it's much easier to lead, than to get other people to lead, but getting others to drive iss much more rewarding.
