I just bought a 14" Remo Djembe key tuned. Question; mine has the famous ring, but I really want to know how I know that I am at the right pitch. I've search the 'net for hours but nothing really helpful. I would appreciate anyone that could help me out.

Hi busyflyin,

itīs said that cranking down the head extremely (applying very high tension) reduces ringing, but this might be dangerous for the head itself resulting in a crack!

To my mind there are better ways to do this, just follow these links:
