You can spell "Music" without rhythm. I think that rhythm is one of the main definitions of music, as it organizes (or at least helps to) the variations of notes in a composition. If a monkey would randomly hit the keys of a piano, I would not consider it music. So, for me, rhythm is the line between music and noise, actually. Since drummers are the ones responsible for rhythm, I think that, yes, drummers are musicians and I'd like to thank the academy.
