I talked with Paul Mason of Tempus drums through facebook, as he had a photo of one of his Tempi at Musicmesse with a kickport. He said it definitely changed the character of the (18") bass drum. I'll post results when I get it. Here's Paul's sweet kit, and what he said. Paul is the coolest.

"Jeff, I'm not really familiar enough with the Kickport in enough different settings to be able to comment, but I will say that it took that 18" bass drum from be-bop to jungle in a heartbeat; I think, though, that it's more obviously effective on some drums than others - i.e. some drums need more help than others.

But basically it was there as a favour to Sammy from Kickport who shared the booth with us that year."
