I've got 13 or 14 snares myself; nothing to compare, cost-wise, with those exhibited on here so far, though. My tastes wander between them. At the moment, an inexpensive Premier Artist steel-shelled 10-lug drum, that I'd never previously bothered with, has my interest.
This is a topic that's lost on non-drummers. They see a red drumkit, say, with a green snare, and assume the drummer has cobbled together a non-matching kit, perhaps for economy's sake. Little do they appreciate that the snare itself may well have cost more than the rest of the drums put together. I've even had that sort of comment when they've seen I'm using a chromed snare drum. They may have a point. So much TLC is spent producing beautifully-wrapped, matching drumkits that it does seem contradictory to bring in a non-matching snare drum
