As last year, I wanted to send some sort of holiday greeting to my forum friends, but it is so difficult in today's world to know exactly what to say without offending someone. I consulted my solicitors last year, and on their advice I wish to repeat what I said then (with no apologies to the lawyers amongst us):

Please accept with no obligation on either side, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, gender neutral celebration of the winter or summer solstice holiday, practiced with the most enjoyable traditions of religious persuasion or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all.

I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted Gregorian Calendar year 2014, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other beliefs, faiths or cultures whose contributions to society have helped make my/your country, amongst others, great; and without regard to the race, creed, colour, age, physical ability, birth antecedents, societal classifications or calling, religious faiths or sexual preferences of the wished individual or set/group of individuals comprising a generally recognised family, said grouping being voluntary, by habit, or otherwise.

By accepting this greeting, you are accepting these terms:

This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable without alteration to the original greeting.
It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her/himself or itself (gender neutrality being maintained with alphabetical arrangement of the alternatives) or others and is void where prohibited by law, and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher.
This wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first, and warranty is limited to replacement of this wish or issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher.

No trees were harmed in the preparation or sending of this message

Peter,

I must say that was a very heartwarming and thoughtful Christmas / holiday / festive season greeting that didn't offend me in the least.

We had our annual holiday event today at work. We used to call it the "Christmas potluck lunch." Now we call it the "Holiday office luncheon meeting" or something like that.... Smile

I wish I was the originator of that piece but I stole it from the net a couple of years back. I really hate politically correct BS and that was a nice parody of what seems to be "correct" these days. I like the atmosphere of the season and reciprocate no matter what people wish me in whatever words. I'm an atheist and being well wished by Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, or whatever, never bothers me. On the contrary, why be churlish when people wish the best for you ?
